With the most incredible view, Mkuru Camel Camp is situated on the north side of Mt. Meru, not far from the irrigated fields of Ngarenanyuki and the Momella gate of the Arusha National Park. The area around the camp is alive with colourful birds and small mammals, with zebra and giraffe in the plains to the north, which is also a corridor for elephants travelling between Mt. Meru and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Close to the camp, Maasai families are living in small traditional Bomas.

The camp offers:

There are two kinds of accommodation: the first one is in comfortable safari tents on wooden platforms, the second is in ground camping tents.

Itinerary

Lake Natron Safari

Seven day / six night - Mkuru Camel Camp to Lake Natron

Lose your sense of time, and experience a world of essential beauty. You will pass near the Mountains of Ketumbainei and Gelai following the direction of Lake Natron, pink with flamingos. The Ol Donyo Lengai, the sacred Maasai Vulcan, rising majestically from the Steppe, will be your orientation point for the last 3 days of the safari. The animals, the colourful Maasai and the dreaming landscapes, make this safari a fantastic life experience.

Day 1

In the early morning you reach the Mkuru Camel Camp on the north side of Mt. Meru. After a cup of coffee and packing your luggage on the back of camels the safari will start. Lunch box in the bush. Accommodation is in comfortable mobile camp. Meal plan Lunch and Dinner.

Days 2-6

Camel safari. Lunch box in the bush. Accommodation is in comfortable mobile camp. Meal plan Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 7

The safari finishes in at midday, when you will reach the road that reaches Ol Donyo Lengai, near lake Natron.

For those of you who do have just one weekend time and wish to experience a camel safari, on request we also arrange camel safari of one night / two days on the plains north of Mt Meru, just contact us for further information

Cancellation policy

Reservations that are cancelled, reduced in length of stay or reduced in numbers (hereinafter collectively called a cancellation) are subject to cancellation and 'no show' fees at the discretion of the company under the following terms:

- Between 60 and 31 days prior to departure 0% cancellation fee will be charged;
- Between 30 and seven days prior to departure 50% cancellation fee will be charged;
- Seven days or less, charges will be 100%

Children Policy

During Camel safaris, for six to 12 year old children sharing with adults, they pay 50%.

Children not sharing with parents will be charged at the full rate for the first child and 50% for each subsequent child. Because of the proximity of wild animals, children under 12 years of age are not encouraged.

Participant Guidelines

The Rates for the Camel Safaris include: Local guides (Maasai and Meru), riding camels and porters; activities as per itinerary; accommodation as per above itinerary sheet; full board with mineral water, tea and coffee, one dinner typical NYAMA CHOMA (roasted goat), village development fee; taxes.

The Rates for the Camel Safari do not include: International flight. Transfer to camel safari starting point and from camel safari ending point. Insurance (medical and evacuation insurance are required). Soft drinks and beer. Gratuities to staff.

The rates are quoted per person.
