The Sanctuary
Established in 1959, the Lodge was created to provide intimate accommodation to discerning lovers of both wildlife and nature. The Sanctuary was founded to offer refuge to orphaned and injured animals and to prepare them for their return to the wild.This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The Sanctuary at Mount Meru Game Lodge hosts animals that were orphanced or badly injured. There are a few resident animals as well but the Sanctuary has provided the needed space for rehabilitation for the specially invited guests. By choosing to stay with Mount Meru Game Lodge, the traveller is supporting these animals since the Sanctuary is supported entirely by the Lodge.
